Presenting “FIT4RRI” (fit for Responsible Research & Innovation)

Project

FIT4RRI is a 3-year research project implemented by 13 European universities and institutes. It was funded by the Europen Union’s Horizon 2020, promoting research and innovation in Europe.

FIT4RRI helps researchers put Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI), OpenScience, and Open Access into practice through analysis, experiments, training courses, and workshops.

We created an animation video -from script to production- that explains open and responsible research principles, working collaboratively with the knowledge and communication team at the University of Göttingen (Germany).

Script

1. Introduction and challenges

Researchers work hard to find answers to important questions for both science and society. They contribute to scientific progress, innovation and knowledge creation for all. Scientists seek to carry out research in an open and responsible way. At the same time, they face increasing demands to produce research that achieves excellent economic and social impact.

2. FIT4RRI

Responsible Research & Innovation creates models to achieve an enhanced research environment. The EU-funded project FIT4RRI develops training programs and strategies for the practical implementation of responsible research concepts. The main goal is to increase the interaction between different stakeholders and to support greater cultural openness and inclusivity in research.

3. RRI

To make research more responsible and innovative the RRI process should be: diverse and inclusive anticipative and reflective open and transparent as well as responsive and adaptive to change But how do you conduct research according to the principles of RRI?

4. Research Life Cycle

It is important to consider the possible impacts of your work at every step of the research life cycle:

  1. Involve a wide range of societal actors as early as possible to ensure the social relevance of your research question.

  2. Collaborate with citizen scientists to collect data, and present early results to various stakeholders to receive valuable input on your research.

  3. Publish on open access journals and choose open peer review to guarantee transparency.

  4. Engage citizens and spread knowledge in order to build a bridge between science and society

5. Conclusions

Responsible Research and Innovation is not just a set of norms and guidelines. It is a process that promotes interaction among different societal actors. RRI provides a flexible tool to overcome conflicting interests and to maximize innovation.

FIT4RRI provides strategies for a transformative change in the research environment and enables you to make RRI & Open Science effective in your research.

Together we can create a cultural change that meets the needs of research and society.

Join our trainings and workshops at fit4rri.eu and start practicing RRI in your research organisation now.
