How to use mobile phones responsibly. Vodafone family’s guide.

Challenge

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) team at Vodafone aimed to raise parents' awareness about the responsible use of mobile phones, increasing children’s safety and well-being.

Vodafone was the first company to create a guide for educational purposes in this area, and they needed a fresh new approach to rewrite the guide. The goal was to develop an educational-informative tool to bring adults and children together, and a usable, simple, direct manual.

Solution

The ideas was to create a a cross-generation guide that speaks to parents and children without creating fear or distrust, explaining how technologies work and how they can make the best use of them. We focused on concepts and messages to enhance the opportunities of technologies while informing about the risks caused by a naive and inexperienced use of mobile phones and the internet.

We help to revise the index to identify content units of homogeneous length, and divide the text into several levels to improve the reading experience, and establish a better content hierarchy.

We made a few changes in terms of messaging, language, and tone of voice, for example, breaking down the dichotomy between messages intended for parents and messages designed for children and choosing a new format, which speaks the language of the whole family. We edited and condensed the original texts to increase empathy and clarity.
